한국의 명절, 설날
설날은 한 해의 시작인 음력 1월 1일로 '설'이라 부르기도 합니다. 설날에 한국인들은 가족들과 모여 조상에게 차례를 지내고 '세배'를 합니다. 세배는 설날에 윗사람에게 절하는 새해의 첫인사입니다. 한국인들은 세배를 하며 서로 잘되기를 비는 '덕담'을 주고받습니다. 한국인들은 설날에 전통음식인 '떡국'을 먹음으로써 한 살을 더 먹는 것으로 여깁니다. 떡국은 맑은 장국에 가래떡을 얇게 썰어 끓인 음식입니다. 설날에는 널뛰기, 연날리기 같은 전통놀이도 즐깁니다. 윷놀이는 남녀노소 구별 없이 모든 사람들이 참여할 수 있는 가장 보편적인 설날 전통 놀이입니다.

Seollal, Korean Traditional Holiday
Seollal, also called 'Seol', is the first day of the lunar calendar. Korean families gather to hold a memorial ceremony for their ancestors and do 'Sebae'. Sebae is the first greeting of the new year when the young make a deep bow to the elder. Koreans also exchange words of blessing when doing sebae. In Seollal, by eating 'Tteokguk', a Korean traditional food, Koreans regard it as getting a year older. Tteokguk is a soup made of clear broth and thin, sliced, stick-like rice cake called garaetteok. We also enjoy traditional games such as neolttwigi (jumping game on a seesaw) and yeonnalligi (kite flying). Yut-nori is the most universal classic game that people of all ages can play together.
