Hunminjeongeum Manuscript
EnglishThe Hunminjeongeum Manuscript is a book that explains Hangeul, Korea's unique writing system. It was published in 1446 when King Sejong the Great (1397-1450) of the Joseon dynasty officially introduced Hangeul to the people. The book describes why King Sejong created Hangeul for his people, as well as the scientific principles behind it, which was designed based on the shapes of the mouth and tongue when pronouncing sounds. Hangeul is easy to learn. It allowed Koreans to fully write down their spoken language, bringing Korean culture to a new level. -Photographed: DDP exhibition, June 2017
