여러분은 한국의 울릉도가 세계10대 해양 휴양지인 것을 알고 계십니까?
2010년 세계적인 여행전문지 ‘론리 플래닛 매거진’Lonely Planet Magazine은 한국의 울릉도를 세계 관광객들이 선정한 가장 멋진 해양휴양지라고 발표했습니다.이 여행전문지에 따르면 “울릉도는 섬전체가 태고의 자연 그대로 보전돼 있으며 다른 섬들과는 달리 물이 풍부해 살아가는 데 어려움이 없으며 울릉도 인근 해역은 독도와 함께 동해바다 최대의 황금어장이자 동해안 어업기지 역할도 하고 있다”고 합니다.
세계 10대 해양 휴양지 울릉도 근처에는 한국인들이 가장 사랑하는 섬인 독도도 있습니다. 날씨가 화창할때는 울릉도에서 직접 눈으로 독도를 볼수 있을만큼 울릉도와 독도는 가까운 거리에 있습니다. 한국사람들은 울릉도와 독도를 “모자섬” 즉 “어머니와 아들” 관계로 부르고 있을만큼 독도는 울릉도와 매우 중요하고 밀접한 관계를 맺고 있습니다.

고조선 Gojoseon Kingdom (2333 – 108 B.C.)
고조선은 한국에서 형성된 최초의 국가이다. B.C. 2333년 단군왕검은 널리 인간을 이롭게 한다는 홍익인간 이념에 기초하여 고조선을 건국하였다. 처음에는 요녕지방을 중심으로 발달하였으며 서서히 동아시아의 중심국으로 성장하였다.
신라는 한반도의 남동쪽에 위치하였다. 건국초기 신라는 가장 약한 왕국이었지만 후에 세 왕국을 통일(676)하였다. 통일 후 나라가 안정된 신라는 해외 여러 나라들과 활발한 교역을 했다. 특히 장보고 장군은 완도에 청해진을 설치하고 해적을 소탕한 후 동아시아 해상무역을 이끌었다.
고구려 Goguryeo Kingdom (37 B.C. – A.D. 668)
고구려는 현재의 만주지역의 넓은 부분을 차지하고 있었고 고구려, 백제, 신라 3왕국 중 가장 강력하고 진취적인 왕국이었을 뿐만 아니라 5세기 북아시아의 강력한 왕국 중 하나였다. 특별히 광개토대왕(375-413)은 전 대한민국의 역사상 가장 넓은 영토를 정복한 왕 중에 하나이다.
백제는 한반도의 남서쪽에 위치한 당시 진보된 국가들 중 하나였다. 백제는 이웃나라, 일본과 가장 친밀한 관계를 가졌는데 많은 기술자, 장인, 재봉사, 벽돌공, 학자들을 보내며 일본문화의 여러 분야에 영향을 미쳤다.
가야 Gaya Kingdom 가야(42 – 562)
가야는 우리나라 남해안 중앙 낙동강 하류지역에 있던 여러 소국의 연맹체로 좋은 입지 조건을 바탕으로 중국과 우리나라 각지 및 일본을 연결하는 중개 무역의 중심지였다. 특히 가야의 철은 중국, 일본에까지 공급될 정도로 국제적인 명성을 얻었다.
발해 Balhae Kingdom (698-926)
고구려가 멸망한 후에, 고구려인 대조영은 고구려인과 말갈인으로 군대를 조직하고 마침내 만주의 진린 근처에 정착하여 발해를 세웠다. 발해는 스스로 고구려의 계승자임을 선언하고 곧 이전 고구려영토의 대부분을 회복하였다.
고려 Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392)
고려는 ‘벽란도’라는 국제무역항을 통해 이웃한 중국, 일본은 물론 멀리 아라비아의 여러 나라들과 활발하게 교류하였다. 현존하는 가장 오래된 금속활자본인 직지와 고려 시대 최고의 공예품인 고려자기는 고려시대뿐 아니라 5000년 대한민국 역사의 최고의 성취물로 꼽힌다.
조선 Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910)
조선의 이름은 한국 최초 국가의 이름에서 유래한다. 유교를 국가통치이념으로 채택하였기에 유교는 조선사회에 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 한국의 역사상 가장 성군으로 꼽히는 세종대왕(1394-1450)은 한국인들로부터 가장 존경 받는 인물로 1443년 백성을 위해 한국의 고유글자인 한글을 발명하였다. 또한 세계 최고의 우량계인 측우기와 자격루라 불리는 물시계, 해시계 등도 발명하였다.
일제강점기 The Japanese Occupation Period (1910 – 1945)
20세기 초, 한국은 일본 제국주의의 야망으로 일본에 의해 강제 점령되었다. 일본은 제국주의의 확장을 위해 한국을 수탈하였고, 문화를 말살하였으며 한국인들은 심지어 한국어도 사용할 수 없었다. 세계2차대전의 종식으로 일본이 항복할 때까지 한국인들은 꾸준히 국내∙외에서 독립운동을 하였다.
대한민국 The Republic of Korea (1945 – Present)
고통스런 일제강점기 시절 이후 한국은 한국전쟁(1950-1953)이 발발하였고, 그 결과로 한반도는 남과 북으로 나뉘게 되었다. 한국은 큰 사회적, 경제적, 정치적 변화에 직면하게 되었다. 그러나 지금 한국은 세계에서 가장 빠른 경제성장을 기록한 명성과 함께 아시아의 중심을 준비하고 있다.

Gojoseon Kingdom > 고조선 2333 – 108 B.C.
Gojoseon was the first country to be formed in Korea. Its patriarch, Dangun Wanggeom, established the kingdom in 2333 B.C. on the basis of a humanitarian ideal called Hongik Ingan, which is devotion to the welfare of humankind. Gojoseon first developed with the Liaoning district as its center and gradually rose as a center of the East.
Silla Kingdom > 신라 57 B.C. – A.D.935
Silla was located in the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula. In its early days, Silla was the weakest of three kingdoms in existence, but later became powerful enough to unify them under its rule in 676. After unification, Silla traded vigorously with foreign countries. Jang Bogo established Cheonghaejin on Wando Island and swept the pirates from the seas and led the overseas trade of East Asia Sea.
Goguryeo Kingdom > 고구려 37 B.C. – A.D.668
Goguryeo covered large parts of present-day Manchuria. The country was not only the most powerful and most aggressive kingdom of three kingdoms in existence (Baekje and Silla being the other two) but also the most powerful in Northeast Asia in the 5th century. King Gwanggaeto the Great (375-413), in particular, conquered the largest territory in the entire history of Korea.
Baekje Kingdom > 백제 18 B.C. – A.D.660
Baekje was located in the southwestern part of the Korean peninsula and was one of the most advanced nations at that time. Baekje had the closest communication with neighboring Japan and exerted great influence on various fields of Japanese culture, sending many craftsmen, artisans, tailors, tile makers, and scholars to that country.
Gaya Kingdom > 가야 42 – 562
Gaya was a federation of several small states centered on the Nakdong River delta in the middle of the south coast. Bridging China, Korea and Japan, it played a leading role as an intermediary of trade and culture. Iron exported from Gaya achieved international acclaim in China and Japan.
Balhae Kingdom > 발해 698 – 926
After the fall of Goguryeo, a man from Goguryeo, Dae Joyeong, formed an army of the Goguryeo and Malgal (a Tungusic tribe) people, and settled eventually near Jilin in Manchuria, and there founded Balhae. Balhae declared itself the successor to Goguryeo and soon regained control of most of the former Goguryeo territory.
Goryeo Dynasty > 고려 918 – 1392
The Goryeo Dynasty was actively engaged in trade through an international port
called‘Byeokrando’with neighboring counties like China and Japan as well as with the far away countries of Arabia. Jikji, the oldest metal printed book in the world, and the Goryeo celadon, the greatest cultural achievement of Goryeo, were produced during the Goryeo Dynasty.
Joseon Dynasty > 조선 1392 – 1910
Joseon derives its name from the first kingdom of Korea, Gojoseon Kingdom Joseon adopted Confucianism as its guiding principle, and this philosophy exerted much influence during the Joseon Dynasty. King Sejong the Great (1394-1450), the country’s finest king, is one of the most respected person in Korean history. He invented Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, in 1443. He also invented a rain gauge, striking water clocks, and a sundial.
Japanese Occupation Period > 일제강점기 1910 – 1945
In the early 20th century, Korea was occupied by Japan. The country was exploited for the benefit of the Japanese Empire. The occupiers attempted to eradicate Korean culture and even forbade Koreans from speaking their own language. But the Koreans resisted continuously, both at home and abroad, until the surrender of Japan, which ended World War II.
The Republic of Korea > 대한민국 1945 – Present
After the painful Japanese Occupational Period, the Korean War (1950-53) broke out and the Korean Peninsula was divided into South and North Korea. Korea underwent vast social, economic, and political changes. But now, with its reputation as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, Korea is preparing to become the Hub of Asia.
