한국의 친구 세계지도는 한국의 독립운동과 6.25전쟁을 함께한 외국인들을 소개하는 홍보물이다. 1910년 일제에 국권을 빼앗기고 1950년 전쟁을 겪은 한국이 다시 일어설 수 있었던 것은 교육·사업·언론·의료 등 다양한 분야에서 함께한 '한국의 친구'들 덕분이었으며, 전쟁 당시 16개국이 병력을, 6개국이 의료지원단을 파견했다.
EnglishThis promotional material, "Friends of Korea World Map," introduces foreigners who stood with Korea during its independence movement and the Korean War (1950-1953). After losing its sovereignty to Japan in 1910 and going through the war in 1950, Korea was able to rise again thanks to these "Friends of Korea," who helped in fields such as education, business, journalism, and medicine. During the war, 16 countries sent troops and 6 countries sent medical support teams.

‘한국의 친구’를 소개합니다.
오 천년 한국의 역사 속에는 고난의 시대가 있었습니다.
한국은 1910년 일본제국주의에 나라를 빼앗겼고, 1950년 6.25 전쟁을 겪었습니다.
하지만 이 고난의 시기를 모두 이겨내고 다시 일어설 수 있었습니다.
바로 어려움을 함께한 ‘한국의 친구’가 있었기 때문입니다.
한국의 독립운동에 함께한 ‘한국의 친구’
미국, 캐나다, 영국, 중국은 물론, 일본 사람들까지 한국의 독립운동에 함께했습니다. 이들 외국인 독립운동가들은 교육, 사업, 언론, 정치, 의료, 선교 등 다양한 분야에서 활동했습니다. 어떤 이는 감옥에 투옥되었고, 어떤 이는 목숨을 잃었습니다.
한국의 6.25 전쟁에 함께한 ‘한국의 친구’
1950년 6.25 전쟁이 발발하자 세계 16개국이 병력을 파견하고, 6개국이 의료지원단을 보냈습니다. 그리고 많은 국가와 국제기구들이 여러 물자를 한국에 지원했습니다. 국제사회는 전쟁이 끝난 뒤에도 황폐해진 한국의 재건을 도왔습니다. 한국의 평화와 회복을 위해 지구촌이 마음을 모았습니다.
“어려울 때 친구가 진짜 친구다”라는 말이 있습니다. 한국은 큰 고난을 겪으며 진짜 친구를 만났습니다.
사이버 외교사절단 반크는 한국의 고난을 함께한 “한국의 친구”를 세계에 알리고 있습니다. 그리고 이들의 뜻을 이어 21세기 한국 청소년•청년들이 지구촌의 진짜 친구가 되도록 응원하고 있습니다.

1. 미국/ 윌리엄 앨더만 린튼/ William Alderman Linton/ 1891 ~ 1960
윌리엄 앨더만 린튼은 개신교 선교사로 군산 영명학교 교장으로 재직하면서 군산지역의 3·1만세운동을 지원하고 국제사회에 알렸다.
2. 미국/ 조지 새넌 맥큔/ George Shannon McCune/ 1873 ~ 1941
조지 새넌 맥큔은 105인 사건과 3.1운동 때 많은 한국인 학생들을 변호하고 지원하였다.
3. 미국/ 조지 애쉬모어 피치/ George Ashmore Fitch/ 1883 ~ 1979
조지 애쉬모어 피치는 1932년 임시정부 지도자 김구의 피신을 돕고 일제에 체포된 한국인 독립운동가들의 석방운동을 벌였다.
4. 미국/ 호머 베잘렐 헐버트/ Homer Bezaleel Hulbert/ 1863 ~ 1949
호머 베잘렐 헐버트는 을사늑약의 부당함을 알리는 미국 워싱턴의 밀사 활동, 헤이그 특사 활동을 하였다.
5. 아일랜드/ 패트릭 도슨/ Patrick Dawson/ 1905 ~ 1989
패트릭 도슨은 제주에서 천주교회 신부로 재직하면서, 주민들의 항일 의식을 북돋우고 일본을 비판하다가 징역 5년을 선고받았다.
6. 영국/ 어니스트 토마스 베델/ Ernest Thomas Bethell/ 1872 ~ 1909
어니스트 토마스 베델은 <대한매일신보>를 창간하여 세계에 일본의 침략을 폭로하며 항일 언론 활동을 하였다.
7. 영국/ 조지 루이스 쇼/ George Lewis Shaw/ 1880 ~ 1943
조지 루이스 쇼는 자신의 사업체에 대한민국 임시정부 교통사무국을 설치하도록 허락하였고 여러 독립운동을 지원하였다.
8. 영국/ 프레드릭 아서 맥켄지/ Frederick Arthur McKenzi/ 1869 ~ 1931
프레드릭 아서 맥켄지는 한국의 독립운동을 취재하여 국제사회에 알리고 영국에서 한국친우회를 조직하였다.
9. 일본/ 가네코 후미코/ Kaneko Fumiko/ 1903 ~ 1926
가네코 후미코는 일본의 무정부주의 운동가로 한국의 독립운동가 박열과 함께 항일운동을 벌였다.
10. 일본/ 후세 다쓰지/ Fuse Tatsuji/ 1879 ~ 1953
후세 다쓰지는 일본의 인권변호사로 한국의 독립운동을 지지하며 한국독립운동가들을 변호하였다.
11. 중국/ 두쥔훼이/ Du Junhui/ 1904 ~ 1981
두쥔훼이는 중국의 학자로 한국의 독립운동가 김성숙과 함께 연합하여 항일운동을 이끌었다.
12. 중국/저보성(추푸청)/ Chu Fucheng/ 1873 ~ 1948
저보성(추푸청)은 대한민국임시정부 지도자 김구를 비롯한 임시정부 주요 인사들에게 은신처를 제공하였다.
13. 캐나다/ 올리버 알 애비슨/ Oliver R. Avison/ 1860 ~ 1956
올리버 알 애비슨은 의료선교사로 한국에 와서, 3.1운동이 일어나자 부상자들을 돕고 한국인을 탄압하는 일제에 항의하였다.
14. 캐나다/ 프랭크 윌리엄 스코필드/ Frank William Schofield/ 1889 ~ 1970
프랭크 윌리엄 스코필드는 개신교 선교사로 1919년 3·1운동에 대한 일제의 탄압 실상을 국제사회에 알렸다.
15. 프랑스/ 루이 마랭/ Louis Marin/ 1871 ~ 1960
루이 마랭은 프랑스 정치가로 파리에서 한국친우회를 설립하고 국제사회에 한국의 독립을 호소하였다.
16. 호주/ 마가렛 센더먼 데이비스/ Margaret Sandeman Davies/ 1887 ~ 1963
마가렛 센더먼 데이비스는 부산진일신여학교 교장으로 1919년 독립만세운동에 참여한 학생들을 인솔하고 격려하여 체포되었다.

Let us introduce ‘the friend of Korea’
There were many adversities in the 5000 years of Korean history.
In 1910, Korea was invaded by Japanese Imperialism, and in 1950, suffered the Korean War.
However, Korea came out on top through all of these times of hardships with ‘the friend of Korea’ who faced our troubling times together.
‘The friend of Korea’ who joined the Korean Independence Movement
People from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, and even Japan joined the Korean Independence Movement.
These foreign independence activists worked in various fields including education, business, journalism, politics, medicine, and missionary work. Some were imprisoned, and some lost their lives.
‘The friend of Korea’ who joined the Korean War
During the Korean War in 1950, 16 countries around the world sent troops, and 6 countries sent medical support. Many countries and international organizations also supplied resources. The international society helped the recovery of Korea after a devastating war. The world came together for the peace and restoration of Korea.
A true friend is someone you can rely on during hardship. Korea found true friendship during a great hardship.

William Alderman Linton, a Presbyterian missionary and principal at Yeongmyeong School in Gunsan, supported the Korean independence movement and spread the news about the movement to the world.
George Shannon McCune defended for and supported many Korean students during the 105-Man Incident and the March 1st Independence Movement.
George Ashmore Fitch, a Protestant missionary, helped Kim Koo evade capture from the Japanese police after Yun Bong-gil’s bombing in 1932 and led a campaign to release Korean freedom fighters from prison.
Homer Bezaleel Hulbert, a Methodist missionary, was sent to Washington and to the Hague as King Gojong’s envoy to expose the illegitimacy of the Eulsa Protectorate Treaty.
Patrick Dawson served as a Catholic priest in Jeju, and was sentenced to five years imprisonment for encouraging residents' anti-Japanese spirit and criticizing Japan.
Ernest Thomas Bethell founded Daehan Maeil Sinboin 1904 and reported on the Korean independence movement and published many editorials that criticized Japan’s invasion of Korea.
George Lewis Shaw, a British entrepreneur, allowed the Korean Provisional Government to set up its transportation bureau in his building and assisted many Korean freedom fighters.
Frederick A. Mackenzie, a journalist, reported on the Korean independence movement and established the London branch of the League of Friends of Korea.
Kaneko Fumiko, a Japanese anarchist and wife of Korean freedom fighter Park Yeol, fought for Korean independence with her husband.
Fuse Tatsuji, a Japanese human rights lawyer, supported the Korean independence movement and defended Korean freedom fighters.
Du Junhui supported the Korean independence movement alongside Kim Seongsuk, her husband and Korean freedom fighter.
Chu Fucheng, a Chinese citizen, provided shelter for Kim Koo and main figures of the Korean Provisional Government.
Oliver R. Avisoncame to Korea as a medical missionary. When the March 1st independence movement occurred, he helped the wounded, protested against the oppressive regime of imperial Japan.
Frank William Schofield, a Presbyterian missionary, photographed Japan’s brutality during the March 1st Independence Movementand appealed to the world to support Korea’s independence.
Louis Marin, a French politician, established the Paris branch of the League of Friends of Korea and advocated Korea’s independence to the world.
Margaret Sandeman Davies was a principal at the Busanjin Ilsin Girls' School, who was arrested for guiding and encouraging students who participated in the Independence Movement of 1919.
